Classic vs. Full-Cassette Awnings: What's the Difference?
It's one of the most common questions we get at London Awnings: what's the actual difference between the classic and full-cassette awning?
The Open Classic Awning
The Open Classic is our most versatile and cost-effective retractable awning. When it retracts, the fabric roll and arms fold back and stay visible. The open design makes the fabric easy to clean. Extra features such as a protective hood cover, pitch control, or the front retractable valance, can be added to best suit the space and needs.
It can be manufactured in widths up to 26 feet and can also be manufactured to fit an area where the projection is equal or greater than the width. These are all limitations of the Full-Cassette model.
When retracted, the fabric roll and arms fold back and remain visible. A practical, versatile system available in widths up to 26 feet.
The Full-Cassette Awning
The Full-Cassette awning provides a sleek, modern look that fits well with contemporary homes and buildings. It retracts completely into an enclosed housing, hiding the system from view. When retracted, the cassette housing shields the fabric and arms from rain, UV rays, and debris year-round.
Size is the main tradeoff. Due to its design, the Full-Cassette awning has a minimum width requirement for certain projections, and maximum width possible is 21’. It’s best to confirm your dimensions early on.
When retracted, the fabric and arms disappear completely into the cassette housing. Nothing is visible and nothing is exposed to the elements.
Which Model Is Right for You?
If you care about budget, versatility, and maximum coverage, choose the Open Classic. For aesthetics and some additional weather protection, choose the Full-Cassette.
